Tamarindo is about an hour drive from Liberia's Airport, Daniel Oduber Quiros International Airport (LIR).

Tamarindo is about 5 hours by road from San Jose or 45 minutes on a local flight.

Sansa flies from Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) and Nature Air flies from Tobias Bolaños Airport.

Tamarindo does have an airport. (TNO)

It is about a 5 min drive from town and there are usually taxis available for ground transfer to town from the airport.

A car is not necessary. You can walk to everything in Tamarindo.

If you do decide that you need a car several rental agencies are available in town.

Local buses are frequent and cheap.

For longer distances, the large comfortable buses cost on average about $1.00 per hour.

Shuttle vans are available; costing more but offering more comfort.

Local taxis are available - (legal taxis are red with a yellow triangle on the side) - ask them to use their meter or "maria".
